Q: How does Gastrolyte work?
A: Gastrolyte is a range of oral rehydration products designed to help rehydrate and manage mild dehydration by replacing fluids and electrolytes in the body. Gastrolyte contains essential electrolytes and glucose, which enhance the absorption of sodium across the intestinal membrane.
Q: What conditions can Gastrolyte be used for?
A: Gastrolyte is a balanced mix of glucose and minerals that promotes water absorption and is indicated for assisting rehydration. It helps to replace fluids and electrolytes lost due to dehydrating conditions such as:
- Diarrhoea
- Vomiting
- Fever
Q: What are the dosage recommendations for Gastrolyte?
A: How much Gastrolyte needed per day should be determined by taking into account the weight of the patient as well as the severity of the condition. Please see Table 1. below for further information. Note: Children dehydrate much quicker than adults and as such parents need to be vigilant and seek medical attention quickly if symptoms persist. Seek medical advice if diarrhoea persists for more than:
- 6 hours in infants under 6 months of age
- 12 hours in children aged 6 months ‐ 3 years
- 24 hours in children aged 3‐6 years
- 48 hours in adults and children over 6 years of age
